Slovakia is a mountainous country. The Carpathian mountains start near Bratislava and wind all the way to Transylvania, in Romania. The two major regions are called the Lower Tatras, which are centered near Banska Bystrica in the middle of the country, and High Tatras, which are near Poprad near the Northern part of the country. Some of the highest peaks delineate the border with Poland.
